Disney has signed a deal with Oculus VR to give the virtual reality startup a $2 billion investment.
The move comes as Oculus VR continues to push ahead with its $2,500 headset.
The deal also includes the development of a new Oculus Rift headset.
Oculus, which is best known for its Rift virtual reality headset, is aiming to develop a standalone VR headset that is capable of delivering high-quality VR gaming.
The deal will allow Oculus VR the ability to invest in new VR technology in a way that would not normally be possible, according to a release by Disney.
“Oculus has proven itself an industry leader and a trusted partner to developers who are looking to create and release a wide range of innovative new games for the Oculus Rift,” said Greg Wyler, vice president of global partnerships for Oculus.
“We are excited to be able to invest our resources to create a new VR experience that truly lives up to the hype, and that will be supported by our talented team.”
The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
